FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Notes on data sources, simulation logic, and known limitations.

How are player ratings calculated?
Each rating uses historical performance data, ranked against the entire league in the same era, then normalized to a 0–100 scale. Shooting blends volume and efficiency; playmaking and rebounding use the corresponding production data; defense combines disruptive statistics such as steals and blocks; stamina reflects workload. Exact weights and normalization details are part of the game's internal rating model.

League-wide era rankings keep lineups from different teams comparable. Team-only rankings would inflate standout players on weaker teams and distort competitive balance.
Why do some early-era defensive ratings look less precise?
Official steals and blocks were not recorded until the 1973–74 season. Earlier historical records cannot reconstruct those categories, so early-era defense currently uses a neutral fallback value. It is not a definitive assessment of a player's real defensive ability.
Where do player and season data come from?
Data is compiled from public historical basketball datasets and game records. It is used only for entertainment and prototype demonstration. ALLERA is not an official data source and is not affiliated with or licensed by the NBA or any professional league.
How are player positions determined?
Positions follow the player's listed position for the relevant season. For careers spanning multiple seasons or eras, the game uses the position that best reflects the player's primary role in the selected era.
How are renamed or relocated franchises handled?
Teams are selected under their historical names rather than merged into a current franchise identity. For example, Seattle SuperSonics seasons and Oklahoma City Thunder seasons appear separately, preserving the authentic roster context of each period.
Are simulations based on actual historical results?
No. Results come from an original simplified simulation model using team ratings and quarter-by-quarter score variance. It is an entertainment-focused strategy simulation, not a reconstruction or prediction of real historical games.
